Is Trash Delayed for Veterans Day 2026? All 72 Metro Detroit Towns

No. Veterans Day is Wednesday, Nov 11, 2026, and trash, recycling and yard waste pickup runs on the regular schedule across metro Detroit. Priority Waste, WM, Tringali, Express Waste, Car Trucking and the city crews we track don't treat it as a collection holiday, even where city offices close.

71 of 72 towns: no delay. 6 (Grosse Pointe Shores, Livonia, Trenton, Clawson, Farmington Hills and Oak Park) say so in their own published schedule; for the rest, Veterans Day isn't on the town's or hauler's published list of delay holidays. 1 town (Independence Township) depends on your private hauler.

Why there's no delay

Metro Detroit haulers only move pickup for six holidays: New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Veterans Day isn't one of them. Some city offices, libraries and DPW yards close on Nov 11, but curbside trash, recycling and yard waste collection keeps running.

City-run fall leaf collection is a separate program; check leaf pickup dates by town if your city collects loose leaves.

Quick answers

Is trash pickup delayed for Veterans Day 2026 in metro Detroit?

No. Veterans Day (Wednesday, Nov 11, 2026) isn't a collection holiday for any of the 72 Wayne, Macomb and Oakland county towns we track. Trash, recycling and yard waste are picked up on your regular day that week.

Does Priority Waste pick up trash on Veterans Day?

Yes. Priority Waste only observes New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas, so Veterans Day pickups run as normal.

Is recycling or yard waste delayed on Veterans Day?

No. Recycling and yard waste follow the same schedule as trash, so they're on your regular day too. A few towns, such as Wyandotte and Grosse Pointe, have already ended yard waste season by Nov 11.

City Hall is closed on Veterans Day. Does that mean no trash pickup?

No. Many cities close their offices on Veterans Day, but the trash haulers and city sanitation crews keep collecting. For example, Livonia, Farmington Hills and Oak Park say pickup stays on schedule.

What's the next holiday that delays trash pickup?

Thanksgiving, Thursday, Nov 26, 2026. In most towns, Thursday pickup moves to Friday and Friday moves to Saturday that week.
